Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to reprise their roles in the latest Hunger Games series film, Sunrise on the Reaping.

It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.

An Important Reunion for Fans

Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. It is believed their cameos will take the form of a future-set scene, as the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.

Delving Into the Prequel

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by author Suzanne Collins. It will be the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.

The Storyline and Fresh Faces

The film's story are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.

The cast also includes several prominent actors in key parts:

  • Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
  • Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.

What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule

Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson recently appeared in the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Regarding the shoot:

  1. Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
  2. Filming was completed in November of the same year.
  3. The highly anticipated film is slated for November 2026 theatrical debut.

Moviegoers can now look forward to the reunion of these central characters to the cinema.
