Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her 800m season with a win at the women-only Athlos event in NYC on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who secured third place at the global championships last month, dominated an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a year affected by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this year so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was really, really fun."

The women-only meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with musical performances and Tiffany & Co. crowns replacing traditional winners' medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their crowns.

Previous champions received $60,000 (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in track and field.

The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan triple Olympic champion and world record holder Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
