Trump's Framework of Retribution and Reward

The ex-president's voracious desire for retribution has quickly morphed into a organized system. During the year since his election, the president's anger and caprices have adopted the form of administrative measures in ways analogous to earlier authoritarian regimes. Justice department officials who fail to comply are promptly dismissed and succeeded by devotees. Critical officials who question him risk prosecution, court proceedings and sanctions. Critics have been designated under executive orders as “hostile to national interests”, “anti-Christian” and “opposing economic freedom”, and warned with criminal charges as “terrorists”.

Federal Agencies Transformed

All instance involving legal action of Trump's enemies and leniency for supporters demonstrates its own distinct qualities. But, notwithstanding their individual nature, they embody manifestations of what has emerged as a calculated approach. Those events are far from random. Trump's purge of DoJ attorneys and Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel, alongside his installation of devotees in high-level posts, began swiftly, promptly developed a regularity, and has now been formed into a regime. Federal prosecutors and the law enforcement agency have been remade into partisan agencies under Trump's clear direction to execute his demands. Unfairness has been turned into routine. It constitutes the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is more concerned with penalizing the leader's perceived adversaries than they are with defending our national security.

Inside the Structure

The origin of this framework has been uncovered in the court filing of multiple previous high-ranking law enforcement agents lodged in September in the judicial system in DC against top official an administration figure and attorney general another official for unlawful firing in “a campaign of retribution against the officials for what administration figures judged to be a failure to demonstrate sufficient allegiance”. In the complaint that a former acting director, the previous acting FBI director, details a conversation in which the director “publicly confessed the impropriety of his actions”.

Driscoll had tried to protect FBI agents from being dismissed, the filing states. He advised him that “they” – interpreted by the official to be the executive branch and justice department – had ordered him to fire everyone who they considered as having been involved in a legal probe against Trump. The document continues: “He explained that he had to terminate the people his bosses told him to fire, because his ability to keep his own position depended on the removal of the personnel who worked on investigations involving the leader. Patel commented that there was no option he or the official could do to halt these or any other terminations, because ‘the FBI tried to put the chief in jail and he recalls it clearly.’” When Driscoll informed Patel he was breaking the agency's own policies, Patel supposedly said “he knew that and he knew the character of the swift terminations were probably unlawful”.

Widespread Effects

After the director's alleged confession to the official, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been gutted and repurposed for his system of punishment. Multiple of the bureau's senior executives were fired or compelled to leave in the first days of the government. Roughly numerous professional attorneys at the department have taken a “deferred resignation program”. A minimum of seven federal prosecutors, among them those in the southern district of New York, quit in dissent over what they regarded as partisan influence in withdrawing the corruption case against the local official, the mayor, in return for his collaboration with Trump's ICE arrests of migrants. The public integrity section of DoJ, which handles corruption cases, has been reduced to minimal staff. The equality section has been decimated: 70% of its personnel has resigned. One-third of executives at the department have resigned. The division implementing ecological regulations has seen departures of a majority its management.

Rewards and Punishments

Concerning the mayor's situation, the interim prosecutor for the NY office, the official, resigned in dissent against what she labeled as the “trade-off”. The border official, Trump's “immigration leader,” appeared as the agent with him on Fox News to state: “If he doesn't come through, I'll reappear in New York City.”. Additionally, a former official, earlier the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the agreement, was granted an appellate federal judgeship, a potential stepping stone to the judicial branch.

Trump's protection for crimes perpetrated while in power, provided by the remarkable judgment of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus blocking his prosecution over the Capitol riot and preserving his electoral prospects for the national vote, is the foundation stone on which he stands to protect his supporters. With such immunity, he has been liberated to authorize misconduct. The impact of the supreme court decision saturates his government and the political party thoroughly. The legal case has metastasized. As a past leader's White House counsel he said about the Watergate
